ESLA, the European Speech and Language Association (formerly CPLOL) organizes the European Day of Speech and Language Therapy every year on 6 March. The theme in 2023 is: Speech and language therapists' roles in critical care and emergency medicine. In the Netherlands we can best read this as The role of the speech-language therapist (SLT) on intensive care, because speech-language therapists rarely work on emergency departments.

However, speech-language therapy on intensive care units is strongly developing in the Netherlands. Recently, a project team, in association with a group of SLTs from all relevant clinical fields, finished a Position Statement on speech-language therapy in patients with a tracheostomy tube. The board of the Dutch Speech and Language Therapy Association (NVLF) approved the document at the beginning of December 2022. .

The NVLF is organizing this international online webinar for anyone interested in this topic. So for SLTs who (want to) work in an intensive care unit, but also for all other colleagues who want to know what SLTs can and may do in an intensive care unit.

The online webinar is free of charge. The position statement will be presented with a focus on intensive care followed by an international panel discussion.
